Before you send money, just pause and check first. So many regular people lose everything to fake crypto investments and phony recovery scams. I was one of them. After losing more than half a million dollars, I wrote this to help others spot the warning signs in time.

This book tells my own story of getting caught in a crypto fraud and then the recovery scams that followed. It covers the money I lost, the deep shame I carried, how it affected my marriage and family, and the tough work of trying to rebuild afterward. I didn’t write it just to share what happened to me. I wanted to show how these schemes operate, why good people fall for them, and some clear things to watch out for. In the end, it’s a straight warning mixed with some real hope for anyone who’s been through it or wants to avoid it.
Eric MacFarlane spent more than thirty years working as a chartered accountant. Back in 2021 he lost over half a million dollars to a crypto scam and the fake recovery operations that came after. The whole experience hit him and his family hard. He wrote The Cost of Trust to turn those hard lessons into something that might help other people. Eric lives in Canada with his wife Sarah.
